Telstra 'Chat to a Champ' Events...
~ During the recient Olympic Games, we had the opportunity to go into several schools (17) in total and set up a Video Conference between groups of school children and various Australian Olympic Athletes live from London. This was known as the Telstra Chat to a Champ event. All our Chat to a Champ events were built around having people send a HeroMessage to our athletes in London What this meant was organising a national road show split into 2 categories – Major and Minor. A Minor activation involved two members of GPJ traveling to 12 schools all over the country. There were three teams that worked simultaneously in order to cover schools across a massive area. Schools as large as Newcastle in NSW and Melbourne VIC to smaller towns like Hopetoun VIC, Esperance and Port Hedland in WA. The schools we visited also ranged in students from 500+ students down to 55 students in total. For the four Major activations we took a pop up party! This meant arriving at the school and setting up a mini Olympic Games area including mini soccer, egg and spoon races and 3 people sack racing. There was Face Painting, Temp Tattoos, sausage sizzle’s and souvenir photos for the children to take home. This entire event’s then culminated with the Chat to the Champ at 16:00. To help with the Chat at the majors former Olympic Athlete Brooke Hanson was on hand at 3 of the majors with former Olympic Athlete Duncan Armstrong stepping in for the event that Brooke could not make. This was a great activation to have the opportunity to be involved in. This was a lot of hard work and a lot of traveling for everyone. However once we got to the schools I think we can all agree it was so much fun to see the school kids get right involved and really enjoy the day. And now we move to the Paralympics where we will be taking an amalgamation of the minor and major events to three schools across VIC….
