Telstra Activation @ Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach 2012...
~ [gallery orderby="ID"]If you’re not a grom, mega ripper, hucker or a goofy footer, but are thinking of experiencing a surfing competition live, then the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach is a great event to drop-in on. For the surfing buffs there is always going to be plenty of appeal because Bells has great waves thanks to the mighty Southern Ocean which generates large swells that fall on the reef-strewn shallows of Bells Beach. But for the humble non-surfer there is also plenty of event appeal. Bells Beach is spectacularly situated amongst the high cliffs of the Victorian coastline which provides a dramatic backdrop and natural amphitheatre for the event. You don’t need to know much about surfing as there is continuous commentary throughout the competition that pretty much tells you what’s happening out there in the waves and who is scoring points and why. For some reason though, even when there is no competition in the water there is still a great atmosphere around the beach with everyone seemingly happy and friendly. You could probably put this down to the relaxed culture of surfing washing over the crowd combined with joy of everyone having a 4 day Easter long weekend, supplemented with massive doses of hormone enriching chocolate. This year was a great year to attend as Aussies won both the men’s (Mick Fanning) and women’s (Sally Fitzgibbons) competitions. For the uninitiated, you know when someone wins the competition because they get to ring ‘the bell’ which is conveniently embedded in their winner’s trophy. GPJ Big Kahuna
